I was to be able to connect to our Mitel phone network with a spare phone remotely via a VPN. I can get a teleworker solution product from Mitel but it is very expensive for just one phone. There is another way to get similar results using VPN but I am not sure how to manually configure the phone to connect to the Mitel ICP and work as a normal DHCP POE phone. Our setup is as follows: 1 x Mitel 3300cx ICP 10+ x Mitel 5212 IP Phones 1 x HP Pro Curve with POE and VLAN config 1 x Windows SBS 2003 server. As I understand what happens when a phone is plugged into the HP Pro Curve is it request a DHCP address, the server has DHCP settings to not assign the phones an IP address but send to off to the Pro Curve. The pro curve then uses Tags to assign a VLAN and DHCP address. The phones are then set on VLAN 2 as configured in the Pro Curve. The phones then find the ICP address from the DHCP settings, download anything they need from the ICP then wait to be logged ontot he phone network. Once logged on (hotdesking) you are connected and can make, receive calls, voicemail etc. I was to do this with a single phone but from a remote location. This means I won't have POE and I won't have the pro curve. So I figure this needs to be done manually. I have aquired an inline POE adapter from an Apple router. ![]() When hooked up the phone powers up and starts to boot ok from this alternative POE source so it works ok. Next I need to get it connected to the phone network. I have very little experience of VLANs and don't even know if the phone HAVE to be on a separate one to the rest of the network or if the ICP is set to only work with phones in this VLAN. So far I have set the static IP settings on the phone to be part of the normal network. I also tried setting them in the range of the VLAN and setting the VLAN settings on the phone the same as DHCP configured phone which is VLAN ID:2 Pri: 6. I have ping tested and it can see the ICP via the ICP address I programmed manually into the phone. When booted the phone goes through the same sequences as a DHCP configured VLAN phone however it halts with the screen displaying the ip address I manually set on the first line and it says 'Using Option 128+' on the 2nd line. Nothing else happens. If the VLAN settings don't matter and it should connect to the ICP then I don't understand what's wrong. If they do matter then I suppose I need to log into the procurve and make sure there is a spare IP address for a static phone. If anyone can help me or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciate. I was planning on spending some time myself to find out if it is a simple procedure and then get our telecomms company involved if I can't figure it out. Hello, I have a great deal of experience with Mitel systems, and can understand what you are trying to do, but need a bit more info about how the remote site is configured. Is it connected via MPLS? What I would do in this type of scenario is the following: Connect remote site to main site via MPLS or IPSec VPN at the router level. I would then enable ip routing on the HP and configure it with an IP address for both your data vlan and your VoIP vlan. Also enter a default route via your local router at teh main site on the HP. Ensure your 3300's default gateway is set to the HP. Download naruto shippuden episode 400 subtitle indo. At the remote site, program a static route in the router to the VoIP vlan by way of the HP switch at the main site. Manually program the 5212 at the remote end with the following settings; IP address - DHCP Vlan - None ICP - ICP IP TFTP - ICP IP Save and reboot. When you reboot, the 5212 should get a DHCP lease from the router at the remote end (with the default route being the router at the remote end) When the 5212 tries to connect to the controller, it will forward to the router which will forward to the HP by way of the static route, which will forward on the the ICP. For the return path, the ICP will send via default route (Which is the HP) The HP will forward it on the the router at the main end, which (already) knows the route to the remote network (I assume, if not add it in) I have done exactly this in the past which works fine.
